A medium designed by J. D. de Stoppelaar in 1967 to differentiate Streptococcus sanguis (frequently found in dental plaque) from Streptococcus mutans (implicated in dental caries). The medium uses a high sucrose content to promote the formation of specific glucans by S. mutans thus forming distinctive colonies.
